The Match

To all that know me, you are well aware we have been eagerly awaiting the results of the highly anticipated "Match Day" - the day where all graduating medical students find out where they will begin their residency training. According to the Rochester Post Bulletin news, there are 36,000 students competing for 25,000 total residency positions nationwide. As students, we start the application process in the summer (similar to applying to medical school all over again), interview in the fall/winter (I interviewed at 7 different pediatrics programs), and then we rank the places we would like to train at. Likewise, the programs rank the applicants they interview. Then we all wait. And wait. And wait some more. All the data is compiled in a complicated computer program and spits out the results - that are a binding contract between the new resident and the program. Yesterday, Thursday, March 18 at 12 noon we all found out our results.

University of Colorado, Denver

This was my #1 choice and Troy and I are so happy! I cannot believe how fortunate I am - I am going to be learning how to be a pediatrician at one of the best children's hospitals in the nation, with amazing faculty (including my mentor from undergrad whom I adore), and living the fun city of Denver with my wonderful husband, son and daughter! How can I be so blessed??? Thayden is only upset he couldn't go to the mountains right away last night. And he also stated that Nana was moving to the mountains with us. He might be a little disappointed with that. Although Denver is still within driving distance, it is quite a bit of a trek with two little kids and my soon-to-be very consuming schedule, and I know the kids will miss their grandparents (and great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins) terribly. We are hoping they start racking up frequent flier miles now! We will have some family in the area - Troy's aunt and uncle currently live in Golden and my cousin Shannon and her family will be moving to Colorado Springs in May. Yay!

My classmates (34 students) all did wonderful in the Match as well and are going to fabulous programs. Mayo is one of the smallest med schools in the nation, and I will be joining one of the largest peds programs in the nation (29 residents in my intern class).

Looking forward to this next chapter in our lives!

Troy and I on Match Day with our results!
