Camping and more

We trialed our first night camping for the season to get out all the kinks prior to our big camping trip coming up in July.  It went really well!  We tried a new place between Frisco and Breckenridge called Dillon Reservoir and it was nice.   Less luxurious camping than our usual Rocky Mountain National Park (ie, no flush toilets, water, etc) but still beautiful.

We arrived Friday early evening (although I think technically these first 2 pictures were taken Saturday morning.)  Our campsite was just yards from the lake.

Setting up camp (with helper Sierra)
The kids were both good "helpers" this year.  At least, they entertained themselves while Troy set up camp and I started dinner.  This age is much better than last year which is a good start!
Working on the tent (again, with the helpers)

One part of entertaining themselves immediately means getting dirty.  Within minutes of arriving Sierra had fallen in mud and is wearing it on her face in this picture.
Sibling love :)
Excited about the campfire
Because of the dry winter we had and the hot spring, there are several fires burning in Colorado and the entire state has a fire ban.  We were afraid we wouldn't be able to have a campfire, but alas, campgrounds with designated fire pits are exempt.  The kids stayed up for a bit but then went to bed together in the tent while Troy and I got to actually have a little time to ourselves by the fire!  Sierra kept singing and singing and singing.  I swear, that girl has her mouth going every minute she is awake!  My favorite is when she started singing about sleeping: "Close your eyes...don't peak..." she is a funny girl!  They both slept very well though.  Troy and I, however, froze, and were up for most of the night.  The next morning the kids were excited to have oatmeal, yogurt and

Thayden collecting sticks
On Saturday we went on a hike after packing up camp.  It wasn't a super interesting trail, aside from the fact that it was also a mountain bike trail so Thayden was pretty impressed with the mountain bikers (but thought that it was way too dangerous.)  He was obsessed with picking up sticks and at one point was carrying at least 5-10 in his arms (clearly well past the point of a walking stick.)  We had a picnic and headed back right as it was starting to rain.

Saturday afternoon we went to a block party near our house (fun) and then once the kids were in bed I went to a resident party welcoming the new interns.  Sunday was another busy day as Thayden and I made a run to the Farmer's Market prior to church, then after naps we went swimming, and finally took a 5+ mile bike ride down to City Park to have a picnic and listen to Jazz in the Park with some of our friends.  What a great weekend!!!
