Fall in the mountains

This past weekend I had Saturday off and we planned a trip with my cousin Shannon to a pumpkin patch.  However, my communication was less than stellar and we ended up at different places.  But, we got some pumpkins and a few good pictures.

Time out for a snack while we try to figure out where Shannon and fam were.
We did finally find them.  We decided to head up to Estes Park which was only 30 miles up the road...but there was an Elk Festival going on and the town was completely packed.  It took nearly an hour to get through it to the other wide, not finding a parking space anywhere in a mile radius.  So we decided to continue on to Rocky Mountain National Park.  Wrong idea again.  Another huge line of cars with stopped traffic...insane!  Finally we made it to a spot off the north entrance (Old Fall Road) with a short trek to a cascading waterfall.
A quick "hike" to the waterfall

A lot of yellow aspens.  Miss the reds and oranges from farther east.

We decided to climb up the waterfall - Jessica and Thayden led the way.

Shortly before we all ended up a little wet trying to skip on rocks across the creek

Seth found a little bit of orange/red!

That concludes our Saturday.  The rest was spent in amazingly heavy traffic in Estes, Boulder, and Denver.  Apparently everyone wanted to get out to the mountains on one of the last nice weekends before winter.  It was insane.  Maybe we'll get to see some more fall colors next weekend.  But maybe not if the traffic is similar.
