13 months

This blog has turned into a baby book for Sierra, mostly because I don't have much time to write but then every month around the 19th/20th I remember - "oh yeah, it's been a month, have to put in an update!" So I'll keep it going :)Sierra on St. Patrick's Day wearing her green dress :) 13 months old and...
...eating us out of house and home. She can take on Thayden in a eating contest almost any day.
...really getting into nodding for "yes" and "no". She still says about the same words as last month.
...Miss Independent with discovering new things, but wants one of us close by
...Goes to sleep at night perfectly and says when she's ready for bed (usually around 7:30)
...Has different signals/vocalizations that she needs to use the potty, although she still needs some convincing to keep sitting on the pot until the job's done.
...obsessed with crawling up on things she can't get down from without falling (chairs, tables, stairs)
...Is starting to learn body parts but only on a doll (nose, mouth, eyes so far)
...Is absolutely beautiful, smart and precious!

Sierra weighs 17 lbs, is running all over, and is big into communicating her thoughts. She will get quite upset if you don't understand what she is wanting. Take picking out clothes in the morning, for example. She now cares what she is wearing and gets giddy when she gets the "oohs and awes" at school because of her cute outfits. Thus, she gets upset if daddy picks out not cute clothes (which he has a tendency to do). If you have any doubt, it is best to give her two choices and let her pick, then all will be well.

Thayden, likewise, is into communicating his thoughts as well. Mostly elaborate stories taken from books, movies, school, and who knows what else makes up his imagination. His stories can get pretty interesting if you can follow them. He is working hard at school in recognizing all his letters (his last test he knew 19/26) and working on the sounds the letters make (which he has a long way to go.) The goal is he is reading before kindergarten I guess (a little higher standard than I remember entering Kindergarten!) Thayden is also growing up to be a good little helper. He helps me make cookies, will help clean (a little), and yesterday helped Troy with a whole day project to try to get our TV cables into the wall so they are hidden. He also is such a great big brother and usually plays really well with Sister. We are so lucky they love each other so much!
Sierra and Thayden are both super excited for the warmer weather lately. OK, we ALL are excited for the warm weather. With the 60-70 degree sunny days we play in our back yard, across the street at the courtyard, and down the block at the park - we'll at least Troy and the kids do...today is my only day off in stretch of 19 days so I spend more time WISHING I could be outside! But we are loving living in our new house. We have had 10 guests with us in the 3 weeks we've lived here, so it's a good thing we have that spare bedroom now!

Thayden and Sierra both advanced classrooms in the last couple of weeks. Sierra is now in the toddler classroom (wow!) and Thayden moved from preschool to Pre-Kindergarten (the 4 yr old classroom). They are growing up so fast!

Last but not least, in our not-so-spare spare time we have gotten involved with a church (Denver Presbyterian) and a community group within the church over the past few months. We are excited to have found this community and for the new friends we are making, as well as growing in our spirituality. We had a difficult time finding the right place for us in Rochester, so we are happy we connected with this church in Denver!
